Staying "Green" in Austin: Eco-Friendly Neighborhoods

Canyon Creek

Located in northwest Austin, Canyon Creek is a part of the environmentally sensitive Northern Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. This is the fourth neighborhood in Austin to be certified as a "Green Neighborhood." The Canyon Creek community has installed over 200 updated storm drains to improve water conservation in the neighborhood, with plans to install more. In addition, they just established the first "Green Garden" in Canyon Creek and the community has sponsored neighborhood tree-planting.


This neighborhood has the great honor of being Austin's first "Green Neighborhood" in 2007. Residing in the upper region of Walnut Creek is a scenic retreat from Austin's bustling downtown area. Not only does the Copperfield community have a rich history of their creek, but the neighborhood also has detailed photography of Walnut Creek. The residents organized a community clean-up of Walnut Creek, picking up over 1500 lbs. of trash as part of Keep Austin Beautiful. The Copperfield neighborhood also holds sponsored storm draining events.

South Congress

Situated just minutes from Austin's downtown, the South Congress neighborhood is a trendy location to settle into. With a lively coffee shops, shops, boutiques, and bars nearby, there's a lot of fun stuff to entertain yourself in the neighborhood. But what makes this living spot special are the year-round organic farmer's market, the sustainable food center and organic community garden. Also there are convenient and affordable energy options for the community, including rebates on installed solar panels. Don't have a car? No problem!
